Madrid Musts: Restaurante Ribeira do Miño

Madrid Musts is where I’ll take you through all the places I fall in love with while living here — from cozy cafés to unforgettable dinners. And to kick things off: if you ever find yourself craving seafood in Madrid, look no further than Restaurante Ribeira do Miño — a true gem and one of those places that locals whisper about for a reason. It came recommended by my neighbour, and let’s just say: she was absolutely right.

This restaurant is known for its legendary seafood platter, served in generous towers of crab, velvet crab, shrimp, crawfish and prawns. Everything is delivered fresh daily, which shows in both the taste and the texture. The quality is simply outstanding.

The space itself is homey yet lively, filled with the sounds of clinking plates and conversation. It reminds me of a summer evening somewhere along the southern Portuguese coast, eating shellfish by the sea. It’s a little noisy, yes, but that’s part of its charm.

If you go, the seafood platter for two or four is a must. You’ll get incredible value for money, and it’s the kind of meal that turns into an experience. Don’t skip the almejas in garlic — they’re the type of dish that makes you want to mop up every last drop. The oysters are also worth it, though note they come by the dozen only. And if you’re still hungry (doubtful, but dessert stomachs are real), order the Queimada Gallega — flaming Galician schnaps mixed with coffee, prepared right at your table. You’ll be handed the ladle to keep the fire stirring. It’s theatrical, strong, and the perfect digestif.

For the practicals: Ribeira do Miño is located in Chueca, just a three-minute walk from Tribunal metro station. The exact address is Calle de Sta. Brígida 1, Centro, 28004 Madrid. Reservations can only be made by phone or in person. Expect to spend around €60 per person — but you’ll absolutely get your money’s worth. Ideal for a long dinner with family, friends, or a special date night.
