This week was a full one, from Monday through Sunday, with something happening every single day. I promised myself that this would be the week to get back into a better routine, balancing the gym, cooking, and a busy university schedule.
Monday
Monday started at Valdebebas with a class by Diego Jabalquinto, the press officer of Real Madrid Femenino. He explained what his role looks like day to day, how responsibilities are divided within the club, and what communication around the women’s team involves. We also got a small extra tour of the sports complex and were shown the new gym where the women train, which was a really nice extra.
Later that day, I headed to campus for a case study class. In groups, we’re working on a communication plan for a fictional (based on real life) scenario where a club has suffered a bombing attack on the players’ bus before a match. The class is very interesting creatively. It’s taught by Juan Camilo, and in two weeks we’ll present our final plan for a grade.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Tuesday was a mix of self-care and university. I started the day by getting my nails done after a long time, followed by my first gym session of the week. Afterwards, I went to campus for a lecture by José Manuel Maza, Senior Legal Counsel at Real Madrid and arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The class was quite challenging to follow, even with my background in European law, but still very interesting and different from our usual lectures.
Wednesday began with another morning gym session before heading to campus again. We had a lecture by Colin Banks, who has years of experience as Manager of Venue Information for events like the Olympics and Wimbledon. His class really stood out to me and made me think about whether this could be a direction I’d like to explore professionally in the future.
Thursday and Friday
Thursday followed a familiar routine by now, gym first and then campus. This time, Erick McKee gave us a very different kind of assignment. No sports, no analysis, but a highly personal essay where we need to show emotion and storytelling through writing.
Friday was my only day without university commitments. I used it to go to the gym, run some errands, tidy up my apartment, and mostly just rest and reset.
Weekend Sports Mode
The weekend was all about sport. On Saturday, I went to the Real Madrid vs Levante match, but before that I started filming my part for our final group project. If you want to read more about that, you can find it in my previous post under Master Class. After filming, it was straight into the Bernabéu to watch the match, which is always fun and interesting, even more so when it is the first home game for the new manager.
Now, as I’m writing this, it’s Sunday. In a few minutes, I’ll be walking to the Movistar Arena to watch Real Madrid Basket vs Valencia Basket. My second basketball game, and one that will definitely get its own post under Match Days.
See you here again next week.
