Last week was filled with 100 different things. Between classes, social plans, internship paperwork and visitors, there simply was no time to sit down and write. So instead of forcing two separate posts in one, I will just recap this week of chaos.
A Week of Classes
Monday started the way most of my days start lately, at the gym. After that I had radio class with Eric, which was focused on podcasts. Let’s just say it was… interesting. We had to grade each other, but no one was allowed to give the same grade. That definitely created some tension in the room, but an interesting one.
Tuesday followed the same morning routine before heading to a lecture by Jorge de Sebastián, who came to speak about the Tour de France and mainly La Vuelta. I am not the biggest cycling fan, but hearing it from a beginner perspective and understanding how these massive events are structured was actually quite interesting.
Wednesday was a full day at Valdebebas. We had a Q&A session with Antonio Pintus, the fitness coach of Real Madrid, and this was honestly one of the most interesting sessions we’ve had so far. Hearing about preparation, discipline and physical standards at that level is something else.
After that we had a class from Borja Miranda, one of the three press officers of the Real Madrid academy. Even though we’ve had multiple press officer sessions already, this one felt different. Working with young players brings a completely new perspective to communication.
Classes ended two hours earlier than expected, perfect timing because my mom arrived just as I finished.
Family Visits & Sunny Madrid Days
That Wednesday evening we went for sushi at HEMU near Sol, a solid all you can eat option.
Thursday was for sunshine and errands. For my internship I needed a social security number, which meant I needed a Spanish phone number. So off to Vodafone I went. The rest of the day was spent walking around Madrid and enjoying the sun at the Cibeles rooftop.
Friday started with breakfast in the sun before heading to my OAC appointment in Sol for yet another certificate needed for the internship.
Afterwards my mom and I went for brunch at a place that definitely deserves its own Madrid Musts post later this month. The afternoon was spent around Plaza Santa Ana, soaking up the atmosphere. The night ended in Moncloa at what we call “the Cave”, not its real name, but very accurate considering the interior.
Grandparents, Catching Up & Even More Cibeles
Saturday morning I worked on some university tasks before meeting my mom and sister at Cibeles, yes again. Later that afternoon my grandparents arrived from Portugal, so the evening was filled with catching up, drinks and delicious Chinese food.
Sunday started early with breakfast at their hotel before saying goodbye again. After a short walk around the neighbourhood, we went back to Cibeles one more time. It is honestly one of the few places where you can sit in the sun, without wind, with good music and great alcohol free cocktails.
And now, as I am writing this, I am getting ready to head to BAKAN. My mom and I have wanted to try this Mexican restaurant for the longest time. Knowing my love for Mexican food, I am sure it will get its own post soon.
See you here next week again!
